Our Spectacular Sensory playground opening

At Kingsbury Academy, our ‘ Learning for Life’ curriculum ensures that there is always an opportunity for our pupils to develop skills for learning, life and generalisation throughout their school day. This extends to our outdoor playtimes, where we recognise the importance of play in relation to cognitive development, and how learners venturing on equipment aids sensory regulation, improves communication and physical wellbeing.

We acknowledge and appreciate the incredible efforts of our PTFA Lead, Jo Lee Poivden, along with the support of family, friends, and the staff team at Kingsbury Academy. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in helping us develop our bespoke playground, designed to support regulation and encourage communication for all.

We would also like to thank John Darch, our wonderful chair of governors, who exerts his time and efforts into looking for fundraising opportunities for our children to have a fulfilling school journey. This has made a huge difference to how we have been able to reach our target in two years.

'It’s been a fun journey to lead the PTA to our fundraising target over the last two years. I am so proud of the work and events we have achieved! My son absolutely loves the new colourful playground. He is a sensory seeker and the playground helps to regulate him throughout the day, he can safely play on the equipment whilst having fun learning new coordination skills.

His favourite is the climbing frame, as he likes to climb up and look at the trees.

This has made a huge difference to his school day, it offers a whole new fun dynamic to all the students that attend the school, and this will be a legacy for children in years to come at Kingsbury Academy' - Jo Le Poidevin (PTFA lead)
