Coventry MP visits local Special School
The Junior Leadership Team welcomed Taiwo Owatemi, MP for Coventry North West, during a celebratory visit to recognise the school’s achievement of the prestigious Eco-Schools Distinction Award. Year 6 pupils led a tour of the school, proudly highlighting their environmental initiatives. These included tree planting with the National Trust, visiting sensory gardens at nearby Charterhouse, and collaborating with construction company Willmott Dixon on projects such as building bug hotels.
Ms Owatemi praised the pupils' leadership and the school's commitment to both education and environmental sustainability: "I’ve had the absolute best tour I’ve ever had in a school.
It's inspiring to see young people so engaged in leadership roles and passionate about the environment. Kingsbury Academy truly empowers its students to take an active role in their school and their community."
Following the tour, enthusiastic pupils invited Ms Owatemi to complete their feedback questionnaire, which the students designed themselves. This initiative is part of Kingsbury's approach to encouraging leadership and active participation among its students. The interaction between the MP and the pupils further underscored the school's focus on engaging its pupils with the community and fostering important life skills.
The visit concluded with Ms Owatemi presenting the Eco-Schools Distinction Award certificate to the staff and pupils, recognising the school's commitment to environmental responsibility.
